So 'Saving money' doesn’t exactly fit the rock n’ roll image, right? On screen, life on the edge is a mixture of carelessness, instantaneous indulgence, and spontaneous spending on unbelievable experiences... living life on the edge. Shatter the spell of such stories and you’ll find that it’s saving, not spending that’s at the heart of the rockstar life. After all, how can you do as you please if someone else is holding the purse strings? The key to gaining independence starts with planning out your day to day, rather than living day to day. For those that aren’t already in this headspace, it’s a daunting concept - but headspace is everything. Studies have shown that being mindful of money is the first step to having the freedom to spend it. After all, spontaneity gives spice to life, and it’s planning your income that will afford you the ride. This mindfulness has two aspects to it... Firstly, being conscious of your daily spending habits will show you where your cash flow is trickling out - for example, those regular packets of chips. It’s a small expense, but summed up, it could add up to the price of seeing a gig or going for drinks - so it's worth paying attention. Why not let your imagination roam free, what can your rockin' future really look like? Daily daydreams of such a future are stepping stones that take you where you want to go. Rockstars and other celebrities often have daily practices in place that focus on being mindful of their finances, where they’re at in life and where they're going. Some of these celebrities believed they’d be stars from an early age, and started their planning earlier. Others like Mick Jagger or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, fell into the limelight. But even they made sure to set a portion of their riches aside for a later date. By being conscious of your plan and envisioning your future goals, you’ll not only have the financial stability to appreciate what you’ve already attained, but also be on a steady path to a life that you can live your way. It’s a balancing act between the present and the future. It’s one worth perfecting for a life of freedom, independence, and a dash of rebellion against the rat race. So, in the words of Pink Floyd: “Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash” - your rock n’ roll lifestyle depends on it.
