Failing To Overcome Fear

Have you ever been afraid of change? In my experience, there's this terror that starts in the pit of your stomach and then likes to move around, messing with your life, your dreams, and your shoulder tension. First off, I'm here to say that if you are scared, then yay! That means you are a human. Secondly, I'm here to say that I want more for you. It's okay to be afraid, but it's not okay to stay stuck in a life you don't like for years out of fear. So, that's today's topic: Failing to overcome fear And I want to start simply: With failure. Most of the time, we don't want to change or start something new because we are afraid of failing at it. And failure feels like it has such big consequences. I'm not trying to sugarcoat failure, I know it can be a big deal. But I also know that we often make it a bigger deal than it is in our minds, and if you're less afraid of failing, then at minimum you are more open to new ideas and opportunities. And that's where happiness begins. So, to help you get past your fear of failing, it's time for you to make a small change, and risk being terrible at it. On a small scale you can build up your resistance. Agree to that weekend away you've been invited to next year. Cap your spending at an amount that makes you uncomfortable. Go to a random event that might be out of your comfort zone. Hey, even take a new way home without using google maps. I want you to get out there and try, and fail, and then move on because it didn't kill you. I fail all the time. The other day I failed at smoothly entering a competition - I was literally that person who entered a competition requiring you tag 2 friends, wrong. First comment was just me entering myself, followed by tagging the same person twice, then third time lucky I finally entered by tagging two friends. Tomorrow I'll fail at something else. It doesn't have to be big, but it keeps me open to new ideas. Willing to try new things. And that's where the magic happens. So make yourself fail a little more more these days, ok? I'm right there with you.
